1. General Information
This Privacy Policy describes how Vireka Interactive ("we", "our" or "the company") collects, uses and protects information when you use the mobile application UV Index: Sun & Vitamin D ("the app", "the service").
UV Index is an app that provides real-time UV index forecasts, sunburn time estimates and a personalised vitamin D exposure timer based on your skin type and current solar conditions.
Core principle: All preferences you set in UV Index (skin type, saved location, notification toggles, alarm sound) are stored exclusively on your device. The app does not require an account, sign-in or registration. Your location coordinates are sent to our weather data backend solely to fetch the forecast for your area, and they are never associated with your identity.

3. Data We Collect
3.1 Location data
To deliver an accurate UV forecast, the app needs to know your geographical location. You may provide it in two ways:
- Device location: If you grant the location permission, the app reads your current GPS coordinates (one-time read each time you ask for it; no continuous tracking).
- Manual selection: You can search for and pick a city without granting any location permission.
The chosen coordinates are sent to our weather backend to fetch the forecast. Coordinates are rounded to two decimals (~1.1 km precision) on our server before being forwarded to the upstream weather provider, so your exact position is never recorded externally. We do not log or store the coordinates of individual users.
3.2 Preferences stored on your device
The following information is saved locally on your device (Android DataStore):
- Selected skin type (Fitzpatrick I-VI)
- Last chosen location (latitude, longitude and display name)
- Vitamin D notification toggles (window opens, optimal moment, last chance)
- Vitamin D timer alarm sound on/off
- Personalised ads consent
- App language preference
- A cached copy of the latest weather forecast (used for scheduling vitamin D notifications)
3.3 Data we do NOT collect
UV Index does not collect:
- Personal identifiers (name, email, phone)
- Account credentials (no sign-in is required)
- Usage analytics or behavioural tracking
- Browsing history
- Payment or financial information
- Photos, audio recordings or contacts
- A history of your past locations
4. How We Use Your Information
The information available to the app is used solely to:
- Display the current UV index, weather and forecast for your location
- Calculate your personalised sunburn time and vitamin D exposure minutes
- Schedule local Android alarms for the vitamin D notifications you enable
- Show ads via Google AdMob
- Manage personalised ads consent through Google's User Messaging Platform
4.1 What we do NOT do
- We do not sell your data to any third party
- We do not build user profiles or track individual behaviour
- We do not associate your location coordinates with any identifier on our servers
5. App Permissions

Allows the app to detect when you are offline so it can show an appropriate message instead of failing silently.
Modify audio settings
MODIFY_AUDIO_SETTINGS
Used by the vitamin D timer to set a reliable alarm volume when the timer ends. The original system volume is restored afterwards.

Approximate location
ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION
Optional. Only requested if you tap "Use my location". You can use the app fully by entering a city manually instead.
Precise location
ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION
Optional. Same use as the coarse permission, with higher accuracy. Coordinates are rounded server-side before being sent to the weather provider.
Notifications
POST_NOTIFICATIONS
Optional. Only requested when you enable a vitamin D notification toggle. Disabled by default. Powers the "window opens", "best moment" and "last chance" reminders.
Boot completed
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED
Allows the app to reschedule any pending vitamin D notification alarms after a device restart, since Android alarms do not survive reboots. No data is collected in this process.
Advertising ID
AD_ID
Used by Google AdMob to show relevant ads. You can manage your consent at any time from the app's privacy settings.
UV Index does not request camera, microphone, contacts, calendar or general storage permissions. Notifications and device location are entirely optional.
6. Storage & Security
6.1 Local storage
All preferences (skin type, saved location, notification toggles, sound setting, cached forecast) live in Android's private app storage on your device, isolated from other apps. They are never uploaded to any server.
6.2 Backend communication
Weather requests travel from your device to our backend over HTTPS. The only data transmitted is:
- Coordinates of the location you are checking (rounded server-side)
- A short-lived city query string when you use the search feature
- An app authentication header that does not contain any personal information
Our backend caches weather responses for a few minutes to reduce upstream calls and improve performance. Cached entries are keyed by rounded coordinates only and contain no personal identifiers.
6.3 Your control
- Change location: Pick a different city or your current location at any time from the home screen.
- Notifications: Toggle each reminder type on or off from the bell icon on the vitamin D screen, or from Settings > Notifications.
- Skin type: Change it from the home screen or the vitamin D screen.
- Personalised ads: Manage consent from Settings > Ad privacy.
- Uninstall the app: Removes all local data, preferences and cached forecasts.
7. Third-Party Services
7.1 Weather data provider
UV index, temperature and forecast data are sourced from WeatherAPI.com, accessed through our own backend proxy hosted on virekainteractive.com. Your device communicates only with our backend; the proxy adds the upstream credentials and forwards rounded coordinates without any user identifier.
7.2 Google AdMob
Free users see ads provided by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect and process:
- Advertising ID: To show relevant ads
- Device information: Model, Android version, screen resolution
- Interaction data: Ad clicks and view time
Users who purchase "Remove Ads" do not see ads and are not subject to AdMob data collection for advertising purposes.
Consent management: A consent dialog is shown on first launch via Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP), in compliance with EU regulations. You can change your preference at any time from Settings > Ad privacy.
7.3 Google Play Billing
The "Remove Ads" purchase is processed through Google Play. Vireka Interactive does not receive or store payment data. Purchase management, transaction history and billing data are handled exclusively by Google Play under their own terms and privacy policy.
7.4 Google Play (in-app updates)
The app uses Google Play's in-app update mechanism to notify you when a new version is available. This communication happens between your device and Google Play and is governed by Google's privacy policy. Vireka Interactive does not receive any user-identifiable data from this process.
8. In-App Purchases
8.1 Available Products

8.2 Refund Policy
- Refunds are subject to Google Play Store policy

9. Your Rights
You have full control over your data at all times:
- Access: All your data lives on your device and is visible inside the app.
- Rectification: Change any preference at any time from the app's settings.
- Erasure: Uninstall the app to remove all local data. As we do not store any user-identifiable data on our servers, there is nothing to delete remotely.
- Portability: Your preferences are minimal (skin type, location, toggles); they can be re-entered on a new device in seconds.
- Ads management: Update your personalised ads consent in the app settings.
- Notifications management: Enable or disable each reminder type in the app settings.
9.1 Managing system permissions
- Location: System Settings > Apps > UV Index > Permissions > Location
- Notifications: System Settings > Apps > UV Index > Notifications, or from the bell icon inside the app
- Personalised ads: App Settings > Ad privacy
10. Protection of Minors
UV Index is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has used the app in a way that concerns you, please contact us and we will take appropriate action.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do:

- The updated version is published on this page, where you can review any significant changes.
